terracotta earthenware // glazed inside and part outside // 6 cm tall
Although I make most of my work in stoneware, I am always drawn back to earthenware for its heritage and possibilities. Earthenware clay is fired at a lower temperature: it's faster, costs less energy and brings with it a whole separate set of colours and effects. Thanks to it's breathability it is ideal for flower pots, and its cooling properties make it the traditional go-to for water jugs. Although this type of terracotta is naturally porous and allows water to evaporate, the jugs are glazed on the inside to prevent leakage.⠀
These EARTH minis allow me to experiment with different handles and play with glaze lines. Each one is unique and slightly different, and the unglazed terracotta will develop its own beautiful patina over time. Display it on your kitchen shelf, use it as an espresso cup (or shot glass!), or pop in your favourite miniature cactus or succulent.
